Frequently Asked Questions

Do you file my insurance?

Yes, we participate with most insurance plans. We will file your primary and/or secondary insurance. Feel free to contact either center with insurance questions or concerns. You can also contact your insurance provider for specific exam coverage details relating to your plan. Please remember to bring your insurance card and photo ID to your appointment. Copay, coinsurance, and deductibles are expected at time of service. Our information on your financial responsibility is dependent on the information provided by your insurance company’s database. However, this is only an estimate, and you may have a remaining portion to pay as a copay, coinsurance, or deductible.

How do I schedule an appointment?

We require an order from your referring provider to schedule your exam. Please call MRI-CT at (757)671-1144 OR Chesapeake Regional Imaging Centers at (757)671-8500 to schedule your appointment.

What should I bring with me to my appointment?

Please bring a copy of your insurance card, and a valid ID.

What do I need to wear?

Cotton, loose fitting comfortable clothing with no metal zippers or buttons or snaps. Please remove all jewelry and piercings. We provide scrubs for you to change into if needed.

How do I get my results?

After your exam is completed, the radiologist interprets each exam and dictates a report. The report is transcribed and sent to your physician’s office typically within 24 hours of your exam completion. Please contact your physician directly for information about your results as they determine the proper plan related to your overall healthcare.

Are there restrictions as to who can have a MRI?

At this time, we do not perform MRI exams for patients with a pacemaker/defibrillator, breast tissue expander, Harrington Rods, Deep brain stimulator, Vagus nerve stimulator.

What if I may be pregnant?

If you are pregnant, let your doctor or the technologist know. MRI is a safe test, we do not perform an MRI exam during the first trimester.

May I bring someone with me?

Yes, we have a waiting room for anyone you choose to bring with you. After completing a screening form, a parent may accompany a child into the exam room. If you are feeling anxious, a relative or friend may sit with a patient during their exam after completing a screening form.

What do I do if I am feeling anxious or claustrophobic?

Chesapeake Regional Imaging Centers have two different styles of “Open MRI”. If you are having anxiety about your exam, our staff will answer any questions you may have before, during, and after your exam. If you have claustrophobia and have not successfully completed an imaging study before, please speak with your doctor if you feel oral sedation could be an option. Please inform our office staff if you are taking a sedative so we can make the appropriate arrangements.

I am an above average person in size, should I alert someone at the facility?

We have imaging options at Chesapeake Regional Imaging Centers that are specifically designed for larger body types (up to 660lbs). However, there are weight limitations on some of the equipment where your exam could be performed. Please contact the facility where you are scheduled to discuss further.
